BSF Lesson 27

God's Holy City (Rev 21:9-22:5)
1. The Holy City - The New Jerusalem (Rev 21:9-21)
Principle 1: The Holy City, the New Jerusalem, radiates the fullness of God.
2. The Temple City (Rev 21: 22-27)
Principle 2: We will live with God in His holy city only when Jesus Christ lives in us now!!
3. The Garden City (Rev 22:1-5)
Principle 3: God's people will serve & reign with Him forever

AIM: God's great purpose for His people is to live with Him in eternal glory

Why John spent so much effort in describing the splendor of the Holy City .... for 3 possible ares of teaching:
a. For believers whose lot is poverty on earth .... vision of the splendor of new Jerusalem is an encouragement to persevere ... as the eternal home awaits them.
b. For the "anti-materialistic" ... message is that there is nothing evil about beautiful / precious things
c. For the "Rich" (in this world) .... it serves as a healthy antidote to materialism .. as all earthly treasures will pale in comparison to the heavenly treasures in John's vision.

Truly fascinating. If you did wonder why God did not choose diamond or ruby among the 12 stones.....
