Romans 6:12-23

Aim: God’s grace enables obedience which leads to holiness.

1. The redeemed live under grace (Romans 6:12-14)

Principle 1: God’s grace enables obedience.

2. The redeemed are committed to obedience (Romans 6:15-18)

Principle 2: True freedom comes from obeying God from the heart

3. The redeemed receive the gift of eternal life (Romans 6: 19-23)

Principle 3: obedience to God is rewarded with the gift of eternal life in Christ Jesus

Romans 6:1-11

Death to Sin

Aim: Believers in Christ have died to sin and cannot live in it!!

1. Died to sin (v1-4)

Principle 1: Salvation gives believers a new life that is identified in Christ.

2. Set free from Sin (v5-10)

Principle 2: The power to live a holy life comes from being united with Christ 

3. Alive to God (v11)

Principle 3: United in Christ is to be dead to sin & alive to God

Those who are in Adam and those in Jesus

Aim: Every person is either "in Adam" and condemned or "in Christ" and saved.

1. Death Comes thru Adam (v12-14)

Principle 1: All humanity is under the reign of death

Death is guaranteed

Reality .... humanity outside christ is under sin and death

1:1 statistics .... death .... people will die

Death reigns if you remain in Adam

2. Life comes thru Christ (v15-19)

Principle 2: Thru Christ’s righteousness, all in Him are justified

3. God’s Grace Reigns (v20-21)

Law increases sin ... grace increase more

Shocking to Jews ... law was to restrain sin

Principle 3: God’s response to increased sin is grace increased all the more.

Not staying in Adam is the key!

Do not lack ability to find Christ ... it is a qn if we trust Him

To believe and follow Jesus Christ!

Standing in Grace

Aim – God blesses with great privileges those He justified.

1. Peace with God (Romans 5:1-5)

Principle 1: Peace with God gives assurance of Hope

2. Reconciled to God (Romans 5:6-11)

Principle 2: Reconciliation guarantees the eternal security of God’s people.
