BSF Lesson 15

Lesson 16

David’s Reign In Judah

Samuel

1. David Lamented Saul & Jonathan (2 Samuel 1:1-27)

Principle 1 : Great human love is a reflection of God’s love.

2. David Anointed King of Judah (2 Samuel 2:1-7)

Principle 2 : When we are aligned with God's will, He will direct our paths.

3. David Consolidating His Throne (2 Samuel 2:8-4:12)

Principle 3 : God uses conflicts to accomplish His purposes.

Take to Heart: David might have assumed it was God’s timing to become king, now that Saul was dead. Instead, he asked God to guide him. God directed David to go to Hebron. God was faithful to guide David throughout life. And God is faithful to His children today. God gives His children the Holy Spirit to live in them and guide them through life. As we read God’s Word, the Holy Spirit helps us understand God’s guidance. Like David, God invites us to ask Him about everything in life. God guides His children through His Word in answer to prayer.

David’s desire to bring Israel and Judah together in peace shows us a picture of the Lord Jesus, the Reconciler who is our Prince of Peace. The sin in the hearts of Abner and Joab that made them enemies shows us the sin in our hearts, making us God’s enemies. God sent Jesus to live and die for us, because Jesus alone can bring us back to personal fellowship with God. God gives His children the joy of telling others the good news of His salvation through Jesus so they, too, will stop being God’s enemies and become His children. God’s children are reconciled to become reconcilers.
